3 February 2010: Bell Labs to create 70 jobs

Bell Labs is to create more than 70 new tech jobs in Dublin as part of a major expansion programme at its Blanchardstown facility. The announcement was made during a visit to Ireland by the president of Bell Labs, Dr Jeong Kim, this morning. Bell Labs, which is the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent, said it intends to expand its research centre and increase the number of people it has working on the Green Touch Initiative. The initiative is supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

"We are looking forward to expanding our research activities in Ireland and generating innovative technologies by taking advantage of the close relationships we have developed with the business and academic community," said Mr Kim. "Through these efforts we believe Bell Labs in Ireland will be able to contribute to the local knowledge economy and have a beneficial impact on the lives of people around the world" Bell Labs Ireland is a key contributor to successful projects such as the Science Foundation Ireland-supported CSET the Centre for Telecommunications Value-Chain Research (CTVR), a collaborative research centre involving seven Irish universities.
