1 March 2010: Industrial firms expect output to grow after two years of slump

The quarterly manufacturing survey anticipates the sector to be one of the better-performing parts of the economy this year. British manufacturers are more upbeat about their prospects than at any time since the financial crisis began more than two years ago, according to a survey released today by EEF, the manufacturers' organisation. Firms have reported a better than expected improvement in output and orders since the end of last year, partly as a result of increased demand for UK exports, helped by the weak pound.
