Managing Director

David was born in the US and lived in many countries before moving to the UK, where he completed his secondary education and degree in Sociology. In 1989, attracted by the fast-paced, and diverse environment of recruitment, he worked for several years in three of the UK’s leading recruitment consultancies before leaving to set up Brightwater in Dublin in 1998.  He has since opened offices in Belfast and Cork, and the specialist company Brightwater Executive. Under his leadership, the Brightwater Group has grown to 100 employees and won multiple awards, including winning a “Best Place in Europe to Work For” four years in a  row.

Barbara McGrath

Barbara McGrath

Deputy Managing Director

Barbara is a B.Comm graduate, MREC qualified, and a Fellow of both the Sales Institute of Ireland and the NRF (National Recruitment Federation). She has over 20 years’ sales experience and over 15 years’ recruitment management experience. She is a former Chairperson of the Sales Institute of Ireland (elected in June 2007) and currently holds the position of  President of the NRF. Barbara joined the Brightwater Group in April 2005 as Head of Recruitment. She was an integral part of setting up several new divisions including Administration, Retail and Sales.

In January 2011, Barbara was appointed to the Board where she has full responsibility for Administration and Retail as well as the IT, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing and Science & Pharmaceutical divisions. Barbara also oversees the Brightwater office in Cork and in Belfast. In July 2015, Barbara was appointed Deputy Managing Director of the Brightwater Group.

John O'Donnell

John O’Donnell

Finance Director

John is a qualified FCCA with over 15 years’ PQE in both practice and industry. After graduating from Athlone Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Accounting & Finance in 1994, John then continued to study for his ACCA qualification while working in the insolvency department of a Top 10 accountancy practice. Following his qualification, he worked in industry before returning to a Top 10 accountancy practice as a Consultancy Manager. In 2002, John joined Brightwater as Financial Controller and assisted with the rapid growth of the Brightwater Group. In January 2008, he was promoted to Finance Director and was appointed to the Board in 2011. He is now responsible for the Finance, IT and Administration functions for the companies within the group including offices in Dublin, Cork and Belfast.

Mark Byrne

Commercial Director - Dublin

A graduate of DIT Mountjoy Square, Mark has over 15 years’ recruitment experience. Mark joined Brightwater in 2003 as a consultant in the accountancy division working with a range of clients from small indigenous companies to large multinationals. By 2005, Mark was promoted to Team Leader and quickly gained further promotion to Manager of that area. In 2011 Mark was promoted to Associate Director and in January 2015 was appointed Commercial Director. He now personally specialises in recruiting qualified accountants for the industry and commerce sector on a permanent basis. He also oversees a team of consultants placing accountants & tax professionals into industry and public practice firms as well as professionals within Sales, Marketing and HR. 

Estelle Davis

Estelle Davis

Managing Partner - Executive Division

With a degree in International Business and Japanese from DCU, Estelle moved to Japan in 2000 to work for the Japanese government coordinating international conferences. On her return to Ireland, she spent a further year working in the same field before joining Brightwater as a consultant in the newly set up Insurance division where she worked with a range of clients from small brokers to large multinationals. In 2005, Estelle took over responsibility of the Financial Services division and in January 2008, she was promoted to Manager of the Banking and Financial Services divisions. In August 2011, Estelle led the set-up of Brightwater’s Executive division where as Managing Partner, she personally sources at the executive level for banking, funds, insurance and aviation leasing across the financial services arenas. In January 2014, Estelle was appointed Associate Director of the Brightwater Group.

Jean O'Donovan

Associate Director - Accountancy (Temporary & Contract) 

Jean holds a BA in Sociology & Psychology from UCC and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from Michael Smurfit School of Business. Attracted by the autonomous nature of recruitment, she began her recruitment career within the temporary & contracts division of a high street recruitment agency. In 2003, Jean joined Brightwater as a consultant in their busy Temporary & Contracts division specialising in accountancy and finance roles across the commercial sector. By 2005, she was promoted to Team Leader and in January 2007, she was promoted to Manager where her remit extended to temporary & contract roles across the banking, funds and financial services sectors. In January 2016, Jean was appointed Associate Director within the Brightwater Group with specific responsibility for the Accountancy division.

Tom Wilkinson

Associate Director - Cork

Tom holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Management from University College Cork. He has 18 years ‘experience of the recruitment industry having previously worked at Director level with a global recruitment specialist working in Ireland, the UK and Northern Ireland. In January 2015, Tom joined Brightwater Cork as Associate Director with specific responsibility for the Finance & Accountancy division. He also oversees all of the teams in the Cork office which recruits across Accountancy, IT, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing and Administration for organisations in Munster and Connacht.

Hugh McCarthy

Hugh McCarthy

Manager - IT

Hugh holds a BA (Hons) in History & Politics from UCD in 1995. After graduating, he then went on to complete a Higher Diploma in Computer Science in 1997 before embarking on a career in recruitment. He spent over six years recruiting for a global recruitment consultancy in the US, UK and Ireland in their technology division before deciding to return to Ireland full-time. Hugh joined Brightwater in early 2003 and helped establish the IT division from the outset focusing on the temporary & contract arena. In 2006, he was promoted to Team Leader of the division and in 2010 was appointed Manager. He has over fifteen years’ direct IT experience recruiting for high-end consultants in high volume complex projects from the USA to Asia and across all sectors in Ireland. He now heads up a team of recruitment consultants specialising in the recruitment of IT professionals on a permanent, temporary and contract basis.

Emma Anglim

Manager - Office, Multilingual, Sales and Retail

Emma holds a BA in European Studies and a postgrad Diploma in Software Localisation. She also holds a Diploma in Business and HR. After graduating, she worked as a senior project manager in a localisation company before joining a national broadcasting company as a senior PA and a broadcast executive. Emma joined the Brightwater Group in September 2007 as a consultant on the Temporary & Contracts desk for administration staff. She was promoted to Senior Consultant in January 2010 and gained a further promotion to Assistant Manager later that year. Emma was appointed Manager of the Office & Retail divisions in July 2012. She is now responsible for the entire Office division where she oversees a team of consultants recruiting office staff across a broad spectrum of industries on a permanent, temporary & contract basis.

Cathal O Donnell

Manager - International Engineering & Operations and Supply Chain & Logistics

Cathal has a BA (Honours) in Accounting and Human Resource Management from the National College of Ireland. He also holds a Diploma in Employment Law. Cathal has over 14 years’ experience working in engineering recruitment and has worked in locations as diverse as New Zealand and Australia. He has recruited for international clients across the Middle East, North Africa and Australasia. Cathal joined Brightwater’s International Engineering division at the start of 2010. He currently works on both large scale recruitment projects and individual assignments for clients across a range of diverse industries such as consulting and contracting, M&E, civil, structural, water, environmental, roads, traffic & transport, project management, quantity surveying, oil & gas and petrochemical amongst others.

Eimear Walsh

Manager - Banking, Insurance & Fund Services

After graduating with a BA in Economics from UCD, Eimear went on to complete a post grad Diploma in Business in the Smurfit Business School in 2004. She also holds an MA in Management. In 2004, she worked in sales & marketing for a healthcare company before travelling for a year. Eimear joined the Brightwater Group as a consultant in their Retail division in April 2006 and managed the division successfully for four years. She was promoted to Senior Consultant in 2007 and developed strong client relationships sourcing staff for a variety of retailers ranging from well-known high street stores to large luxury concessions. In April 2010, Eimear moved internally to take up a Senior Consultant role with the Banking and Fund Services division and in July 2012 was promoted to Team Leader of the Banking, Insurance and Fund Services division. In July 2013 Eimear was promoted again to Manager. She is currently responsible for sourcing candidates for a broad spectrum of roles across the Banking and Fund Services arena and oversees a team of consultants recruiting for clients in this field.

Derek Smyth

Team Leader - IT (Temporary & Contract)

Derek has a primary degree in HR and an MBS from UCD with over 10 years’ experience in both consultant and management roles. Over the course of his career he has worked with a wide variety of clients from SMEs to multinationals across a broad range of industry sectors. Derek also worked as account manager for a leading US IT company where he was solely responsible for recruitment in both Ireland and the UK. In August 2010, Derek joined Brightwater’s IT division as part of their contracts team. He was promoted to Team Leader of the division in 2012 and is responsible for all fixed term and daily rate contracts nationwide. Derek also assists on large scale IT recruitment projects for both the public and private sectors.

Eileen Wall

Team Leader - Human Resources

Upon leaving school, Eileen entered the pharmaceutical industry on a junior sales representative level specialising in primary and secondary care. She spent a total of 18 years in the pharmaceutical industry where she gradually gained promotion to area manager sales representative. In 2006, she then transferred her industry knowledge over to a career in recruitment. Eileen worked with major pharmaceutical companies in Ireland recruiting across a range of roles from sales representatives right up to senior management. In January 2011, Eileen joined Brightwater’s Science & Pharmaceutical division as a consultant and in 2013 she also recruited for the Marketing division. In January 2014 Eileen was promoted to Team Leader of the Marketing and Science & Pharmaceutical Sales divisions before taking up an internal role within the Brightwater Group initially as a Senior Recruitment Specialist. As of April 2016, Eileen specialises in recruiting HR professionals for a range of clients from SMEs to large multinationals.

Sara Goulding

Team Leader - Banking & Fund Services

Sara holds a BA in History & Sociology from UCD. On graduating, she began her career in the banking sector working for various well-known institutions in Ireland, the UK and Australia. In 2011 Sara returned to the UK where she entered the recruitment industry, working with Tier 1 global financial services organisations. In November 2012, Sara returned to Ireland where she joined Brightwater as a consultant in the Banking & Funds division. In July 2015, Sara was promoted to Team Leader of the Banking and Funds Group. She is currently responsible for sourcing candidates for a broad spectrum of roles across the Banking and Fund Service arena on behalf of both Irish and international clients.

Annita McGettigan

Team Leader - Accountancy (Temporary & Contract)

Annita graduated from Dublin Business School in 2009 with a Degree in Marketing. She also gained a Diploma in Event Management & PR in 2011. On graduating in 2009, she worked as an Account Executive with a marketing agency before leaving to work in a PR role in Dubai. She returned to Ireland in 2011 where she gained 2 years' sales experience in the hospitality industry. Annita joined Brightwater Recruitment in October 2013 as a consultant on the Temporary & Contract Accountancy desk. She is responsible for the recruitment of accountancy professionals on a temporary and contract basis on behalf of clients ranging from SMEs to large multinationals. Annita was promoted to Team Lead in July 2016.

Michael Minogue

Team Leader - Legal

Michael graduated with a BCL Degree from University College Cork in 2008. Upon graduation he worked in Financial Services with one of the ‘Big Four’ Accountancy firms before going on to qualify as a Solicitor. He has four years' legal experience, working initially in a General Practice with a focus on Conveyancing and Probate. Michael then completed his training contract with a niche Commercial Litigation firm with an in-depth knowledge of the Professional Indemnity Insurance market as well as Employment Law. He qualified as a Solicitor and in 2014 was admitted onto the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland as well as the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales. In July 2014,  Michael joined Brightwater as a consultant with the Legal team and in December 2015, he was promoted to Senior Consultant on the legal desk. He now recruits legal professionals for both practice and in-House clients specialising in legal, compliance and company secretarial roles. In July 2016, Michael was promoted to Team Lead and manages a team of consultants specialising in practice and in-house legal roles.

Andrew Rowley

Team Leader - Engineering

Andrew holds a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Wolverhampton. After graduating he built a successful career in sales and business development where he held senior management positions with a number of major retail brands, managing turnover figures of up to £10m. In 2005 he then moved to the recruitment industry with a focus on engineering roles while also gaining experience across the science and technology sectors. Andrew joined Brightwater's Munster office in June 2013 as a consultant on the Engineering desk. In September 2016, Andrew was promoted to team lead and supervises a team of consultants recruiting for  engineering and manufacturing professionals on behalf of clients in Ireland and overseas.

Karyn Glennon

Senior Consultant - Office (Temporary & Contract)

Karyn gained a distinction in Human Resource Management Diploma from Dublin Business School in July 2016. Upon leaving school Karyn joined one of Ireland’s most prestigious hairdressing groups where she moved rapidly up the ranks from apprentice to stylist and finally to management over a 9 year period. She then spent some time working in Australia before returning to Ireland where she enrolled in Pitman Training. After gaining a secretarial diploma, she took on a role as a student administrator in a creative arts college. Karyn then moved into a recruitment consultancy to act as a team administrator. It was not long before she showed a passion for the industry and joined the ranks as a consultant herself. In November 2014 Karyn joined the Brightwater Group as a consultant in their Temporary & Contracts division where she recruits for office staff on a temporary & contracts basis.

Aoife Clarke

Head of Administration

On leaving school, Aoife gained a Secretarial & Computer Studies Certificate. After 2 years working within the purchasing sector, she was attracted to the busy sales environment of recruitment and joined the Brightwater administration in 2000. Aoife assisted with the set up of the Belfast office in 2001, Brightwater Support in 2005 and then the Cork office in 2006. Aoife was promoted to Team Leader of the administration function in 2005 with a further promotion to Manager in 2008. She now manages a busy internal administration division supporting a large team of recruitment consultants for the Brightwater Group across the Republic and Northern Ireland.

Eileen Moloney

Eileen Moloney

Head of Marketing

Eileen holds a BA in Applied Languages from DCU. She spent five years working in sales and marketing roles in various sectors including hospitality, electronics, manufacturing and recruitment before joining Brightwater as a recruitment consultant in their international division. Within three years, she had returned to her marketing roots and moved within the group to their in-house marketing function. In 2005, Eileen was promoted to Team Leader and in 2008, was promoted again to Head of Marketing. She now manages the marketing function for the entire Group in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. She oversees a busy internal marketing team and is responsible for all of the Group’s sponsorship activities and various events affiliated with many of Ireland’s leading professional institutes.

John Duffy

John Duffy

Head of IT

After graduating from the James Watt College in Scotland with a HND in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, John began his career working in one of the biggest European computer manufacturing plants as a process yield engineer. He then spent a number of years travelling and working across the globe before settling in Ireland in 2001. In 2003 he joined one of Ireland’s professional accountancy bodies where he worked for nearly ten years supporting the institute and their IT infrastructure including setting up a new training centre. In 2013 John then joined Brightwater’s internal IT team as Senior Systems Specialist. In July 2014, he was promoted to the Head of IT where he oversees a number of vital implementation projects. John is now responsible for the entire internal IT team, maintaining an exceptional quality service for the Brightwater Group consultants across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Karen Blake

Team Leader - Administration

On leaving school Karen gained a Certificate in Secretarial Studies. With a very strong interest in developing her culinary skills she entered the catering industry. Karen spent over four years working in the hospitality sector while attending DIT College, ultimately achieving a Higher Certificate in Culinary Skills. In May 2004, Karen decided upon a career change and joined Brightwater’s Administration team. In 2007, she was promoted to senior administrator and then gained a further promotion in January 2011 to Team Leader. Karen is now the Team Leader of a very busy Administration division and supports Brightwater’s large team of recruiting consultants.
