Group Tax Director

Brightwater Executive has been exclusively retained by a leading financial services provider offering clients a range of specialised legal, fiduciary, fund administration, regulatory and compliance, entity formation and management services. Its global network of lawyers and industry professionals is located across the globe.

This newly created role is a vital strategic hire for the Group and will act as a Business Partner to the Global COO and Global CEO as well as Partners, CFOs and the Global Management Committee. This role will also act as the key liaison with relevant tax authorities and external tax advisors.

The position is a rare opportunity for a senior Tax professional to join a large, and growing business to shape and develop a new in-house function to allow the efficient structuring and management of the Group’s tax affairs.

The individual appointed to this role will be an active member of the Group Global Tax Committee and will play a key role in determining the agenda and focus of that Committee.

Key responsibilities:

  • Overall management of the Group's tax affairs and tax risk across all relevant tax heads nationally and internationally. This will include corporation tax, income tax, VAT, sales tax and withholding taxes; (20%)
  • Liaising with Partners' personal tax advisers, assisting with tax affairs as they pertain to Group earnings; (15%)
  • Assisting the EU DAC6 compliance process in place in the Group; (15% - internal and external)
  • Managing and advising on the Group's transfer pricing arrangements, including liaising with external transfer pricing advisers on a regular basis; (10%)
  • Identifying and managing the tax aspects relating to particular in-house projects (including premises projects) as identified by the Director of Group Tax/Global Tax Committee/Group General Counsel/external advisers; (10%)
  • Dealing with other ad hoc tax matters as they arise; (10%)
  • Proactively monitoring national and international tax developments, proposing and agreeing approaches to respond to these developments; (5%)
  • Advising on tax issues relating to Group structure and ownership; (5%)
  • Advising on tax issues relating to global mobility, addressing relevant PE issues/risks associated with work related travel, working temporarily in jurisdictions other than home jurisdiction and international secondments; (5%)
  • Liaising with and coordinating the Group's engagement with external tax advisers and building relationships with the relevant tax authorities; (5%) and
  • Overseeing all tax compliance within the Group and liaising with the relevant Financial Controllers in the jurisdictions in which the Group operates.

Candidate Profile

  • Ideally a dual qualified ACA and CTA (or similar) tax professional with 10 years’ plus post qualified experience.
  • Experience gained within the “Big 4” or other large accounting and advisory firm
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to distil and communicate often complex tax issues in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Previous experience developing and building out a Tax function would be extremely advantageous
  • Change management / project management experience
  • Experience of working in a partnership structure and/or in jurisdictions with different tax profiles would also be advantageous
