We are seeking a talented, highly motivated Cloud Data Architect with a passion for shaping strategic big-data and high-performance analytic solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience designing and implementing an AWS-based data lake and migrating from a traditional data warehousing platform to a more modern cloud data fabric architecture. This is an excellent opportunity for a focused individual with a passion for leading edge cloud data and analytic architectures to work in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving business environment. You will partner with data scientists, data engineers, solution architects, business systems analysts and developers. In addition, you will provide expert level consultation to data management and technology decisions, while developing and promulgating data best practices necessary to realize our enterprise data ambitions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Acting as a key influencer for all Data Architecture activities
  • Lead efforts to introduce, re-engineer and optimize AWS cloud data platform processes and systems by assessing business needs and architecting, proposing, and implementing data management solutions.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to shape the enterprise architecture vision, ensuring a cohesive and extensible data lake/fabric architecture.
  • Select and implement enterprise data and analytic services to accelerate the work of solution teams with appropriate training and guidelines.
  • Providing expertise, knowledge and upskilling on data lake and cloud-native big-data solution design.
  • Partnering with engineering teams to implement complex cloud-native solutions, developing proof of concept prototypes to validate proposed plans and performance objectives.
  • Monitor the data lake/fabric implementation to ensure alignment with evolving guidelines.
  • Helping to shape and evolve best practices for data lake, database design, data warehousing and ETL.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in data lake services such as Amazon Elastic Compute (EC2), Amazon Data Pipeline, Glue, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Amazon Kinesis, and Amazon Redshift.
  • Proven experience with analytical technologies in the industry including MPP and NoSQL databases, cloud data warehouses, ETL, BI reporting and Dashboard development.
  • Knowledge of evolving best practices related to data lake architecture and governance, data security, and data Integration & Interoperability.
  • Ability to co-ordinate well with a remote global team.
  • Effective leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Tech leadership, upskilling and mentoring experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and developing high quality data and BI solutions in a fast-changing environment.
  • Must be very detailed-oriented.
  • Passion and ability to deliver on commitments and drive products and systems to success.
  • Clear communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience evaluating 3rd party solutions for use within the enterprise.

Desirable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience in working in Financial Services/Insurance industry.
  • Prior experience with Agile development.
  • Experience with Dremio, DataBricks, Python, Spark and/or Dask beneficial.
