About the Business

The CIF is the Irish construction industry’s representative body. It provides a broad range of services that assist members in navigating the political, business, economic and regulatory environment.

These services cross the full business spectrum and include Training and Development; Contracting; Housing and Planning; Industrial Relations and Employment Consultation and Support; Health & Safety; Marketing and Industrial intelligence Reports; Engagement with Government, Statutory and other industry bodies, and regular updates on all issues affecting the construction industry.

All services are provided on a national and regional basis from offices in Dublin, Cork, and Galway.

 

About the Position

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is presently recruiting a Director of Communications.  The Director of Communications will be responsible for external and internal communications, digital marketing, web, and social media engagement on behalf of the CIF. Reporting to the Director General, and maintaining a strong collegiate working relationship with and supporting Director colleagues, the Director of Communications shall have the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities 

  • Proactively support and advise the Officers and Directors in media and communications strategy development and implementation of agreed programmes for the Federation and its constituent sectoral and regional groups
  • Providing communications/PR support and strategic advice to the Director General and the Director team for the CIF’s wide range of lobbying activities, at both national & local level
  • Developing strong relationships with media reps. Managing media relations and maximise media opportunities. Manage journalist queries and drafting press statements on behalf of the CIF
  • Manage and promote the CIF’s brand, values and reputation to their members, other industry stakeholders and beyond
  • Create and launch press releases and digital marketing campaigns & act as spokesperson on behalf of the CIF when required by the DG
  • Guide the CIF’s key messaging, helping to ensure consistency of messaging to advance its position and reputation as an industry spokesperson
  • Continue to develop and implement the CIFs’ digital marketing strategy
  • Develop internal publications such as newsletters, releases, email announcements, in-house publications, on-line, video, and related assignments.
  • Continued management of the CIF's websites and build their social media presence on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube and Facebook and others as may be agreed.
  • Develop, organise, and manage Annual Conferences and Events
  • Develop successful email marketing initiatives allowing the CIF to communicate regularly to members promoting its range of services
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Director General

Experience/Requirements 

  • Possess substantial experience across the major communications disciplines with strong understanding of the political system, exposure to public affairs and lobbying
  • A proven track record of 8 – 10 years plus at a senior level of supporting and delivering high quality Corporate Communications strategy across all media
  • Proven crisis communications experience, with the capability to work collaboratively
  • Educated to Degree Level, further professional qualifications desirable. You will need to demonstrate a solid grounding in PR, Public Affairs or Journalism
  • Knowledge of the working environment of a Representative body an advantage
  • Trustworthy, credible, with sound judgement and the capacity to make decisions quickly and effectively when necessary.
  • Proactive, creative, and forward thinking and willing to appropriately challenge the status quo when needed and balance this with being a strong advisory support to the senior management team.
  • Evidence of success in preparing clear and concise written reports, research briefs, letters, and briefings on complex and/or sensitive issues for a range of different audiences.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience of working with a wide range of media, developing media strategies and relations, preparing press releases, etc.
  • Naturally skilled communicator using -all communications channels and platforms.
  • Hands-on experience engaging, interacting, and managing senior stakeholders and media.
  • Proven experience working with websites, including web development, producing content for the web, and working with all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube
  • Self-starter and strong team player capable of playing a lead or supportive advisory role as required as part of the senior management team
