About the Company

Our client is a hugely successful and established production operation based in Longford, just off the N4 Dual Carriageway. The client has been in operation for over 45 years and has continued to grow and expand to seven sites across Ireland and mainland Europe. The works with some of the biggest food manufacturers and retail symbol groups as well. Due to an internal promotion, a position for a Cost Accountant has now been made available.  

About the Position

This Site Cost Accountant will be working on-site working closely with the General Manager and the Financial Controller. This person will integrate into the Site Management team and assist management in understanding systems and the need to accurately record production and reduce yield variance. The role will involve a large amount of business analytics and project team working on-site improvement projects. The role will ensure that business decisions are made with a clear understanding of payback and sound financial costing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial/costing support to the non-finance functions of the business
  • Ensuring achievable budgets for all operational costs based on performance and business needs
  • Provide in-depth analysis/trends on financial and non financial drivers/KPI’s
  • Assist & support managers in achieving margins through control and provision of information
  • Assist Managers in understanding the business systems Informance, Tropos, Cognos, Pragma
  • Align and bridge any gaps between Operations and the Finance function
  • Develop and maintain efficient controlling processes, providing transparency in the operational results of the plant and value streams within
  • Perform regular analysis to provide transparency and explain variances to local and senior management
  • Identify and report on any adverse cost trends, prepare what-if scenarios, initiate and analyze action plans to address the cost development, for example with respect to material and labour usage
  • Report on cost reduction and efficiency improvement proposals
  • Review investment proposals in terms of costs, expected pay-back and risks
  • Actively support the stock counting and stock management process to ensure accurate recording of stock values and waste
  • Prepare annual financial budgets for the plant activities based on the production plan

Experience/Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, advanced knowledge of Excel 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous Cost Accounting experience is essential preferably within a food or production environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage various levels of management
  • An accountancy qualification is essential, CPA qualification would be a distinct advantage but not essential 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills
  • Must be available to work fully on site as this is a production environment that will require the successful candidate to work with all the teams within the production departments daily. 

Remuneration Package

55,000-65,000 DOE, additional perks available
