Role Summary:

We are seeking a talented Data Governance practitioner. As a Data Governance Specialist within our clients' business, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, communicating, enforcing data processes, policy, and standards, and driving continuous improvement across the company. You will work closely with stakeholders to identify and implement processes and monitoring to ensure good Data Management.


Key deliverables/areas of responsibility in the role:

  • Generate a data governance framework that can be communicated in simple language
  • Enforce the adoption of all Data Governance standards across sites and business units or functions
  • Source and compose training to drive understanding and adoption of good data practices
  • Ensure employee data and system access is in line with role requirements
  • Develop and monitor systems to detect and prevent/alert poor data behaviors 
  • Inform and advise on good practice around data protection
  • Develop and maintain Threat Matrix of data management risks man and action plans to address
  • Identify unstructured data across the business and develop a plan to manage
  • Assist department managers and stakeholders with best practice guidance and data protection awareness
  • Perform gap analysis to key Regulatory (CBI/DPO) guidance and develop plans to address
  • Maintain, develop, and publish best practice advice via the Intranet and SharePoint.
  • Clearly articulate data issue mitigation processes and escalation paths
  • Perform audit activities and tasks in connection with monitoring and enforcing good data behavior
  • Assist in the investigation and correct reporting of data breaches
  • Draft guidance documents and contribute to the promotion of staff awareness
  • Define training requirements where there is a change to policies, processes, or ways of working


  • Ideally you will have a qualification in Data Management/Data Protection
  • 3+ years in a technology/data management role
  • Good understanding of data protection requirements and principles
  • Strong technology understanding of how systems generate & store data and how technology can be used to identify, manage, and control data
  • Motivated and able to plan work around key project milestones
  • Previous experience of being able to manage and influence change to drive continuous improvement within a data-driven role
  • Good communication skills and an ability to interact with and influence individuals across the business
  • Superior analytical skills to diagnose problems, resolve issues and develop practical solutions
  • Understanding of industry standard data governance framework/standards
  • You should be comfortable analysing and interpreting multiple data sets, doing gap analyses, interviewing various stakeholders, documenting findings, and providing recommendations
