About the Position


The Data Protection Lead will manage the continued development and implementation of the DP Framework across the group. As DPL, you will deliver the annual Data Protection plan for the group and act as the primary contract point between the group and the Data Protection Commission. You will ensure all DP regulations , policies and procedures are kept in line with regulatory developments and have influence across the group in promoting and embedding the DP function. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and nurture a positive culture of data protection through setting the appropriate tone, staff awareness programmes, briefings, and staff induction process.
  • Inform and advise staff about the requirements of the GDPR and the Data Protection Acts.
  • Ensure staff understand the practical implications for their business areas and the risks associated with data processing operations, taking into account the nature, scope, context, and purposes of the processing.
  • Monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with requirements, regulations and best practice data protection policies.
  • Provide expert advice and support to business areas about the management of internal data protection activities, data privacy statements, privacy by design, third-party processing agreements, etc.
  • Keeping up to date, on all matters about data privacy and data protection law and application.
  • Assist business areas in deciding if a DPIA should be undertaken and assist with conducting DPIAs.
  • Ongoing review and updating data protection policies, privacy statements, processing agreements, etc.
  • Advise on investigation and notification of data breaches, conducting risk assessments, and liaison with the DPC as necessary
  • Managing Data Subject Access Requests and advising Departments on the process.
  • Main point of contact with the Data Protection Commissioner’s office on all data protection issues, complaints and queries.
  • Any other adhoc duties that arise from time to time.

Experience/Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of experience in data protection, data management, audit, risk management, or related area including at least one of the following:

  • Engaging with business and/or IT management to understand and document the business processes, data flows, controls, and business needs.
  • Data protection experience and understanding of GDPR requirements.
  • Experience in third-party management activities.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications including Excel and Visio.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work closely with peers and build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Previous experience supporting GDPR Article 30 requirements preferable.
  • Experience with Collibra or OneTrust tools would be an advantage.
  • Good communication, presentation, and influencing skills.

Remuneration Package

This is a permanent role, with the office based in North Dublin. The salary is €70 - €75k with pension and health insurance offered after completion of probation period. The successful candidate will be required to be office based for the initial bedding in period but there is an opportunity to discuss hybrid arrangements based on a candidates preference/circumstances.
