One of Ireland's most prestigious universities with a beautiful campus in the heart of Dublin’s city Centre, Our client  is Ireland’s highest ranked university and they have an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations Officer to join their team on a maternity cover contract

About the Position

The Employee Relations Officer will work as an integral member of the Employee Relations team having responsibility for key elements of the day-to-day operational workload of the Employee Relations function and will report to the Employee Relations HR Manager. They will develop excellent relationships with key University stakeholders and trade union representatives to ensure the orderly and timely implementation of University change initiatives

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising and supporting Department Heads and Managers on the operational management of University procedures on dignity and respect, grievance, discipline, redundancy.
  •  Working with Supervisors, Managers and Heads on the management of attendance and the operation of the Sick Leave & Absence Management policies
  • Managing issues presented by staff representatives and trade union officials
  • Fostering and developing relationships with University management and trade union representatives to ensure the orderly and timely progression of management change initiatives, implementation of national agreements and the resolution of staff grievances and disputes.
  • Assisting and supporting the timely and orderly implementation of higher education sector and University industrial relations agreements
  • Representing Human Resources at formal College meetings with managers, committees, staff and staff representative bodies
  •  Assisting with the preparation of third party submissions and attendance at third party fora as may be required
  • Liaising with the University’s Occupational Health, Income Continuance and Employee Assistance Programme providers, as appropriate
  • Assisting with, and participation in, the provision of line manager training programmes
  •  Input into the design, development and implementation of updated and new University HR policies
  • Any other duties as may arise from time to time as directed by the manager or nominee


  • Third level qualification in HR
  • A minimum of five years relevant practical experience in the Human Resources area
  • Experience in handling meetings and exercising sound judgement is desirable.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills the ability to work effectively under pressure

Remuneration Package

€50,000 -€60,000
