Associate Director - Pharmacy Strategy

Hybrid working: 2-3 days a month in the office

About the Role:

This role leads the development of innovative strategies to improve the access and affordability of healthcare through our prescription drug lists and associated programs. This position will work directly with senior leaders within the organisation and will represent the company to external stakeholders.



  • The US healthcare market with respect to pharmacy benefit design and operations
  • Manage the development of strategic initiatives aimed at improving the access and affordability of healthcare, specifically pharmaceutical products related to prescription drug lists and drug distribution channel strategies
  • Demonstrate clinical understanding of drug / therapeutic categories for strategy assignments, including clinical drug guidelines and Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee clinical designations
  • Assist in the development of analytical models and use these models to supervise the evaluation of the financial impact of various drug / therapeutic category management strategies
  • Gain cross functional support for potential strategies based on the evaluation of metrics including drug effectiveness, drug cost and market share
  • Present potential strategies in a clear and concise manner to internal stakeholders, including key senior leaders within UHC
  • Support negotiations and interactions with pharmaceutical manufacturers, in alignment with Group policies, directives, business goals and objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry context
  • Proven ability to work well and collaboratively, with multiple teams or departments to support achievement of business goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret complex information
  • Intermediate MS Office Excel skills (e.g. V-lookups and Pivot tables)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, establishing rapport and working well with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
  • Experience of strategy development and proficiency in performing financial impact analysis, specifically, experience using financial, forecasting and other data analysis tools
  • Advanced degree (MBA or PharmD)
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience in managed health care or pharmacy benefit management
