About the Position

The Tax Accountant, as part of the Global Tax team, will be assisting with tax reporting and compliance in the EMEA jurisdictions in which the business operates. The Tax Department operates within a co-source model that works with tax professional service and finance business partnering firms to assist in the preparation and management of tax activities. Working with the EMEA Tax Lead, Tax Managers and other tax personnel, the Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with indirect compliance, direct tax compliance and quarterly provisioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax compliance/reporting including liaising with third party outsource provider and other departments including Finance, HR etc. to gather necessary data.

  • Supporting the preparation of timely and accurate quarterly provisioning/budget calculations for US GAAP reporting.

  • Maintaining an EMEA tax calendar to ensure accurate and timely filing of direct and indirect taxes.

  • Being involved in managing the indirect tax returns and payment compliance for Irish entities and respective branches. The successful candidate will work with the Tax Managers in performing reviews of the work being completed by finance teams in India, including providing resolution to queries and escalations, as well as providing excellent customer service to other business units across the globe.

  • Assisting with the management of withholding tax exposure on investments/premiums by ensuring all documentation in place (residency certs/FATCA etc.)

  • Assisting with the management of tax audits as they arise.

  • Researching and assisting in providing advice in relation to insurance premium tax issues for the underwriting/operations teams and providing support with the handling of day-to-day international tax queries.

  • Providing assistance in relation to any internal projects work that may arise in the year from a tax perspective (including mergers, withholding tax & financing).

  • Building and maintaining tax relationships with internal departments (i.e. Finance, Legal, HR, Underwriting and Operations).

  • Maintaining the documentation of the tax procedures of all business units including documenting and assisting the development of necessary processes for the group.

  • Working with the Tax team to engage with Finance/Tax teams in India, being involved in reviewing the output of the tax team and ensuring documentation and standards are maintained.

  • Keeping abreast of tax developments, US GAAP and OECD changes and best practices.

Experience/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA) and/or Tax Advisor (AITI/CTA)

  • Knowledge of the principles of direct taxation and their interaction with reporting processes

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

  • Hyperion Smartview and Oracle experience is beneficial, but not essential

  • Tax experience within the International insurance industry is beneficial, but not essential
