Section Manager - Cell and Gene Therapy

About the Company

This client is a World Leader in the provision of critical testing services to the Life Science Industry.

About the Position

This role is a leadership position in their expanding Cell and Gene Therapy section. You will lead a strong team of QC Analysts with 3 Team Leaders as direct reports. You will ensure the timely completion of the sections work and guide it's strategic expansion over the next 12 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively co-ordinate and manage the department to consistently meet the requirements of the organisation and the client. 
  • Manager client project planning, set up and resources.
  • Build and manage client relationships at an operational level.  
  • To organise the scheduling of work.
  • Ensure that scheduled work is completed accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure equipment and systems calibration / qualification schedules are adhered to.
  • Ensure investigations and technical issues are completed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining the MOS (management Operating System) and reporting performance as required.
  • Achieve the financial targets of the section. 
  • Track and control section budget and spending.
  • To assist in identifying opportunities for project continuity and / or new business opportunities.
  • Motivate the team to perform to a consistently high standard through staff training and development and continuous feedback on performance.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the planning of required people resources and for selecting and recruiting the desired candidates. 
  • Assist in the planning of other resources e.g. equipment in line with budget requirements and ensure that that selected equipment is implemented in line with the organisations quality system requirements.
  • Effectively communicate all business activities to senior management, as appropriate.

Experience/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in immunology, molecular cell or equivalent is essential.  Postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience cGMP analytical chemistry with at least 2/3 years at a senior level.
  • Gene Therapy experience required
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a growing section.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Well-organised, accurate, strong documentation skills.
  • Passionate about quality and client service.
