About the Position

This is an incredible opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to take the lead in an exciting greenfield opportunity. In this role you will be a key driver in the establishment of a brand new 3,800 sq. m. testing laboratory that will serve clients nationally.

This state of the art facility will house testing capabilities in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Microbiology and Parasitology labs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the provision of laboratory services to ensure that the service provided to key internal and external stakeholders are delivered in a timely manner whilst achieving high quality accredited analytical results for value for money.
  • Assist in the development of business strategies for the laboratory by providing specialist advice in their area of expertise.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining an efficient focus on turnaround times for data and ensuring these are meeting the set KPIs to improve reaction times to incidents and events by the wider business.
  • Required to make decisions on the allocation of resources (finance, people, equipment, information and data) and will be responsible for determining allocation where there are competing demands for these resources
  • Lead the consistent implementation of Health and Safety policies and coordinate compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory and UÉ policy requirements.
  • Ensure INAB accreditation is attained and maintained for all appropriate scientific services
  • Maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders by engaging across the business and externally
  • Undertake and manage risk and business continuity associated with the laboratories
  • Lead a culture of continuous improvement in laboratory service provision using LEAN Six Sigma techniques where appropriate, to deliver cost efficiency and quality, challenging and developing solutions for improvements to existing analytical practices and adopting industry best practice.
  • Ensure the team works in accordance with defined levels of competence, regulation standards, health and safety requirements, legislation, QA systems and standard operating procedures using the technology systems provided.
  • Manage the Opex and Capex budgets for the laboratory

Experience/Requirements

  • Third Level qualification (Level 8 or higher) in a relevant science discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience, preferably in an environmental testing laboratory setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of current analytical best practices and procedures within the analytical scientific field.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Quality Management Systems and the requirements for maintaining INAB ISO 17025 accreditation.
  • Knowledge of LEAN Six Sigma techniques for driving operational efficiencies within their laboratory unit.
  • Knowledge of H&S procedures and policies including Risk Assessment.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing and innovating teams in a customer focused manner through the direction, empowerment, and motivation of team members
