Supply Chain Category Manager

About the Position

The main responsibilities will be to execute 'Category Plans' and strategic sourcing through detailed market analysis and understanding future demand.

About the Company

Our client is currently undergoing an organisational transformation to streamline its operations in IT, HR, Finance and Supply Chain functions through a new Business Services model to create synergies and a ‘one team’ culture. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Play an active role in all stages of detailed strategies for their category
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, through detailed expenditure analysis and supply market evaluation to define and prioritise sourcing initiatives
  • Ensure engagement and collaboration between all stakeholders to ensure business units goals, standards, policies are procedures are being achieved
  • Prepare and coordinate strategic tender documentation and oversee tender process
  • Evaluate supplier responses and prepare clarifications for supplier award process
  • Carry out evaluations, organise consensus scoring sessions where relevant and supplier award processes in accordance with internal governance rules and procurement policies
  • Maintain and track financial and non-financial benefits by monitoring supplier performance
  • Support Business Units with ongoing management of contracts
  • Regular interface with Supply Chain Transaction Services through all stages of the process
  • Support implementation of Supply Chain policy
  • Support Supply Chain performance measurement using relevant internal scorecards
  • Act as a liaison with local authorities
  • Lead staff and drive a ‘one team’ culture
  • Manage operational performance of Category Management reports, lead strategic sourcing activities and ensure all compliance procedures are followed


  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role or relevant experience
  • Experience in Water and Wastewater Asset Operations and the procurement of those goods
  • Demonstrated experience manipulating data, with ability to manipulate and analyse large data sets to deliver evidence-based decisions
  • Market analysis skills
  • An understanding of the sourcing process and the ability to think critically
  • Category planning skills, with proven experience in managing categories.
  • Experience delivering savings across categories
  • Comfortable with reading and interpreting detailed financial information.
  • Project management knowledge
  • Experience using e-procurement tools and contracting tools
  • Knowledge of developing and issuing tender documentation with an understanding of Irish contract law
  • Negotiation skills and ability to conduct negotiations with suppliers
  • Development of negotiation materials, training internal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

Remuneration Package

€60,000 - €80,000
