Our client, a leading university based in Dublin has an opening for a Deputy Solicitor to join their team for a specific purpose contract. 

About the Position

The Secretary’s Office is looking to recruit a Deputy College Solicitor who will work closely with the Acting College Solicitor/Information Compliance Officer to assist the University Community in meeting its needs from a legal, compliance and regulatory perspective. This role will be Reporting to the College Solicitor & Information Compliance Officer

Key Responsibilities

Assist the College Solicitor & Information Compliance Officer with the following tasks:

  • Litigation Management
  • Providing legal advice to the University Secretary, University Officers and all areas of the University as required
  • Contract review and negotiation for all service areas and academic areas of the University
  • Assist in the management of the University’s contractual relationship with its subsidiaries and related corporate governance needs
  • Review of MOUs and Student Exchange agreement for Global Relations
  • Providing legal advice on University’s strategic initiatives
  • Internal Student case management
  • Providing advice to disciplines and schools in relation to Academic Appeals, Disciplinary Panels and Visitors’ cases
  • Licencing for on-campus activities and events e.g. special restaurant licences, public music and singing licences and theatre licences
  • Carrying out duties in the role of Information Compliance Officer – Freedom of Information requests, internal reviews and appeals to the Office of the Information Commissioner.
  •  Provide support to the Office of Corporate Partnership and Knowledge Exchange in the negotiation, drafting and execution of shareholders agreements and academic consultancy agreements.
  • Work with the College Data Protection Officer in supporting the College’s GDPR implementation plan as required.


Person Specification Qualifications

  • Have a relevant degree and hold a current practice certificate issued by the Law Society of Ireland;


Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable)


  • 3 years+ experience in a public body advisory role, experience of working in a third level HEI would be an advantage;
  • Have an excellent understanding of corporate law and governance in Europe / Ireland - other jurisdiction requirements an advantage;
  • Be able to apply regulatory advice to an education and business environment and have a good understanding of the related data protection and compliance risks;
  • Have experience of advising on Data Protection law;
  • Experience in Information Technology and Information Security;
