Health & Safety Manager - Heavy Machinery

Our client is a family owned and operated business. It is Ireland’s largest supplier of plant machinery and equipment. They represent the complete range of Volvo Construction Equipment both Heavy and Compact.

About the Position

Reporting to the director of the business, the Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that the workplace is safe and healthy for employees, customers, and the environment. You will develop and implement policies and procedures to identify and mitigate hazards, comply with regulations, and promote best practices. The Health & Safety Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the overall safety and well-being of the plant hire operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain Safety Statements for 4 branches & 3 other locations. Update on a yearly basis at a minimum.
  • Carry out audits in all branches 4 times per year (Quarterly)
  • Monitor monthly branch inspections carried out by the local Branch Managers
  • Carry out Monthly Inspections at Dublin Branch
  • Send reports to Senior Management after all audits and inspections
  • Attend CIF/IPCA Executive meetings every 2 months
  • Investigate, record and control accidents in house and in the field on HSA website
  • Update Safety legislation regarding people, machinery and premises
  • Assist customers with safety legislation regarding machines and equipment
  • Update Safety statement with regard to new supplier products i.e. Pavers, Rollers Penta engines
  • Update safety statement as required due to additional hazards identified through Risk Assessments
  • Co-ordinate Safety training for Safe Pass, Quarry Pass, Manual Handling and First Aid courses
  • Control Lifting requirements and Insurance Inspections carried out by designated companies
  • Manage the auditing of Fire extinguishers, Fire Management and Fire Training
  • Manage Apprenticeship welfare for all Apprentices through their phases, and final sign off when complete with Training authority.

Experience/Requirements

  • Must have IOSH & NEBOSH, NVQ Qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years as a Health & Safety Manager
  • Must be an excellent communicator and team player, with the ability to maintain excellent working relationships
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Can juggle multiple tasks, is detail orientated whilst meeting deadlines
  • Background in Construction & Plant industries preferential
