Representing a leading Life Re/Insurer with a strong growth and acquisitive strategy throughout Europe, this company is currently looking to appoint a highly dynamic, commercially astute Senior Technical Accounting Manager. Ideally 7 years plus PQE with strong technical accounting skills set, in particular across IFRS 9 / 17. This new role offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to play a significant part in shaping a business and supporting and ambitious growth footprint across several European markets. Reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting Policy with dotted line to the Group Corporate Controller, the position provides a platform to apply strong critical thinking and research skills to develop a cohesive set of accounting policies for the group and interpret/apply accounting principles for new transactions and emerging standards. Liaising directly with cross-functional teams across the executive leadership of the Group, external auditors and Board members.  Record, evaluate and document technical accounting implications of complex or non-standard business transactions working collaboratively across the Group.  Prepare memorandums, papers and presentation regarding the Groups position and impact on the revenue stream and balance sheet positions.  Guide subsidiaries in the application of Group accounting policies including review of their position papers.  Guide and support the quarterly reporting cycles in addressing ad-hoc queries and ensuring new transactions are presented and disclosed accurately.  Lead in the training and coaching of developments across the Group including the Board, peers and finance teams.  Lead in the completion technical reviews in advance of external audit review for consolidated and subsidiary financial statements.  Take a leading role, along with senior Finance colleagues, in any major regulatory/statutory developments for the Group – immediate examples include changes to IFRS 9/17.  Research, analyse and conclude on new and proposed accounting, reporting and disclosure standards on a variety of accounting bases (IFRS, US GAAP and other European GAAPs).  For acquired activities, critically assess current accounting policies, laying out the implications for the Group and aid integration into the Group.  Lead in the embedding of the risk culture and control framework across the Group including identification of risks and controls and remedial actions to address all points.  Be flexible and provide support across Group Finance for all tasks including M&A and project work when required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

 Highly motivated self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to work under pressure, achieve targets and meet strict deadlines and to develop and manage projects.  Proven track record as a top performer, with proficiency working across multiple teams and functions to ensure clarity of requirement and delivery.  Possess excellent project management, relationship building and leadership skills.  Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate a vision and technical concepts to multi-stakeholders.  Relevant industry qualification (ACA or ACCA or CIMA) with several years PQE  Experience working directly or auditing in a financial services environment  Extensive experience in insurance and reinsurance accounting  Detailed Financial systems knowledge  Proven experience leading Change in complex environments  While direct team size will be small initially, this role will be a leadership one across the Finance function.
