Our client a leading general Insurer is seeking to recruit a legal costs accountant to join its claims team.

Main Purpose of the Role & Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• The role will involve advising and negotiating on the quantum of legal costs and outlay up to and including Taxation and any Appeal thereon. • Manage a portfolio of cases at legal costs stage to bring them to a successful conclusion including attendance at taxations, as required. • Implement measures to minimise legal cost and expert fee expenditure for the Claims function and develop Key Performance Indicators around claims spend on expert providers. • Design and implement a consistent cost resolution strategy, including assessing, negotiation and resolving of all cases referred and providing guidance to others on cases not personally handled. • Advise management of all matters relating to legal costs and experts fees. • Prepare resolution reports, management reports and establish financial control relating to fees/cost, including managing outsourcing to external legal cost accountants.

Key Requirements:

• Be a Fellow or an Associate of the Institute of Legal Costs Accountants having been in full time practice for 5 years or more as a Legal Costs Accountant, dealing exclusively with the preparation, negotiation and taxation of legal costs. • Have a detailed knowledge of the work involved in defending third party claims, arbitrations and mediations. • Be results orientated, a problem solver, flexible and have the ability to effectively prioritise workloads and work to critical deadlines combining a pragmatic approach and sound business acumen. • Have strong analytical skills to identify trends, identify and implement solutions. • Be self-motivated with the ability to work on his/her own initiative and to meet specific personal and department targets. • Have excellent inter-personal/communication skills with an emphasis on providing assistance and support to members of the various teams of the Claims Department. • Have an understanding of claims, insurance legislation and regulatory compliance obligations. • A competitive package is available to the successful candidate commensurate with skills and experience.
