Brightwater are currently looking for a Medical Scientist to work with the Components Laboratory. The purpose of the role is to assist in ensuring that all tasks involved in the receipt, processing, labeling, storage, and issuing of blood and blood products in the National Blood Centre are performed safely and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Report to the Chief Medical Scientist/Senior Medical Scientists of the Components laboratory on a day to day basis • Assist in the processing of donated blood and blood products • Participate in the work roster covering the period 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday as required and overtime as required. • Participate in the out of hours roster covered in three shifts per out of hours week as detailed below o 7pm to 7am Wednesday to Friday, o 7am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday and 7pm to 7am Tuesday • Participate in the implementation of operational processes to the standards of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP). • Actively participate in the implementation and maintenance of a Quality Management System in the Laboratory • Perform all work to the highest professional standards • Attend and participate in laboratory training as required • Participate in the training of staff and in maintaining training records as requested by senior staff • Perform any appropriate duties as may be requested by the Chief or Senior Medical Scientists • To be responsible for the quality of their work and to perform their duties in accordance with the Boards policies • Maintain strict confidence when dealing with all aspects of the Board’s information • Participate in evaluation, calibration and validation of new procedures and equipment • Assist in preparing and presenting production reports and statistical information • Assist in investigating and closing Quality Non-Conformances or Customer Complaints • Actively participate in internal and external quality audits and Quality • Assurance/Proficiency monitoring as appropriate • Actively participate in and promote continuing education consistent with the role or as assigned by the Board • Make the most efficient use of developments in information technology. • Conform to the IBTS Health and Safety regulations

Essential Criteria:

• Candidates must have, or be eligible for, full membership of the Academy of Medical laboratory Science and possess a relevant, recognised qualification. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Good computer skills. • Knowledge/experience of working in a GMP environment

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience of working in a Blood Processing Laboratory • Problem solving.
