Key responsibilities

• Market analysis, setting strategy and propositions through to the underwriting actions taken to determine what business is taken on. • Strategic focus on annual business and financial planning cycle • Tactical focus on underwriting initiatives and activities undertaken throughout the year • Analyse evolving market conditions, new business objectives and current performance continuous reassessment to maximise the profit from a portfolio • Drive retention of profitable risks, regarding underwriting, reshaping or elimination of non-profitable risks, achieving a balanced portfolio within the parameters of plan and strategy and targeted, profitable new business growth. • Provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Underwriters in support of the achievement of business plans, the development of key customers, brokers and cases etc. • Be a proactive point of escalation for technical queries and referrals • Develop business plans and pricing strategies and alignment of these with business development and underwriting strategies • Analyses of profitability and growth of specialty areas of business and recommendation of aspects requiring change or remedial action • Development of new or enhanced propositions based on customer and distributor insights; lead the design and delivery of the risk coverage component of key propositions. • Proactively contribute ideas and work for the development of new or enhanced propositions based on technical, customer and distributor insights.

Key skills

• Advanced Bachelor’s degree, ACII, FCII, Chartered Insurer or equivalent other academic qualification. • Experienced underwriter or actuary managing a material portfolio of General Insurance business. • 10 - 15 years of General Insurance experience, • Ability to lead and influence • Track record of growing and managing a business and delivering change in a complex insurance environment. • Extensive understanding of the corporate and commercial insurance markets & products / services. • Operational change and transformation leadership. • Risk assurance, regulatory and statutory obligations and compliance For more information and a confidential discussion on this Head of Commercial Motor Lines JOB, please contact Estelle Davis at Brightwater Executive on 01 662 1000 or email
