Operating Environment and Objectives
Reporting to the Head of Investment Operations, the Investment Operations Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day running of key tasks in the investment function that sits with the ALE Finance department. Primary areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to investment trade processing from transmission to settlement, monitoring of key shareholder investment services, change management and assisting with projects related to the Company’s separation from the Group There will also be an expectation for this role holder to become knowledgeable in all areas critical to the functioning of the investment team and to keep up to date with all regulatory releases impacting unit linked funds. Will require regular interaction and building of good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The Canddiate will: • Oversee the daily generation and transmission processing of trade files to several transfer agents and custodians • Manage Asset and Liability reporting and resolution across the copany’s policyholder asset • Ensure timely delivery of Investment information from the company’s main service providers in accordance with service level agreements • Escalate policy related investment issues (operational breaches, unit pricing errors etc.) to the relevant control functions & Committee’s in the company. • Work with the company’s Finance department to ensure all transactional activities are settled within agreed timeframes • Build relationships with custodial partners and fund management firms across Europe and United States who oversee the management of company’s shareholder and policyholder assets. • Be the point of contact to company’s control functions on investment related topics/queries particularly during sensitive reporting periods • Provide support to the Head of Investment Operations with paper generation for several Committees • Work alongside the Head of Investment Operations to assist in implementing on fund operations, process changes and improvements. Documenting these improvements to existing or creation of new procedural documents. • Be a meaningful contributor to company projects requiring investments inputs planned for 2020 and beyond • Other ad hoc tasks and projects as may be required
• Primary business-related degree • Professional qualification – LIA (Life Assurance Association) or equivalent
• 3+ years’ experience working in fund administration or investment client services role • Experience in the life assurance sector working in operations would be an advantage, but not essential.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Sound knowledge of the unit linked funds’ universe from simple to complex structures. • A clear understanding of middle or back office functions and Straight Through Processing (STP) • Knowledge of life systems investment processes • Previous experience & delivery in fund on-boarding, mergers and switches would be an advantage, but not essential. • Understanding the impact global markets have on investment instruments – both funds and segregated mandates. • Ability to work across different functions and jurisdictions (internally & externally) to deliver on project and task deliverables. • Ability to work well within a team environment, sharing ideas, experience and knowledge with colleagues and with others across the business. • Comfortable presenting to senior management. • Accuracy and attention to detail are a must for this role • A keen problem-solver, innovative and able to influence management with new ideas • Comfortable working on their own initiative If you’re interested in this or other financial services jobs, please contact John Howe on 01 662 1000 or email
