Key responsibilities will be to:
• Prepare and review quarterly consolidated results and annual report for the company including: o Develop and maintain reporting templates in line with relevant technical and business requirements. o Understand the individual German, Irish and Bermudan business units and review their business returns. o Review of Group consolidation including review and preparation of consolidation journals, eliminations and group intercompany reconciliations. o Preparation of IFRS financial statements including supporting statutory notes and disclosures. o Assist in preparation of other regulatory reporting obligations. • Update and assist in the improvement of the financial reporting process in particular to support growing statutory and regulatory disclosure requirements e.g. IFRS 17/9 and continuing pressure on reporting deadlines. • Play a significant part in supporting the building, testing and running of the implemented financial reporting process for the IFRS 17/9 project including a hands-on role in the UAT, dry run and parallel reporting process for the project. • Managing ongoing relationships with other Group functions (including actuarial, tax and all divisional finance reporting teams) that are integral to the financial reporting processes. • Liaising with external auditors in addressing technical accounting developments and to facilitate the smooth running and close-out of the audit process. • Assist in the co-ordination of embedding of IFRS in the financial reporting and systems of the subsidiary businesses. • Support the design and maintenance of a Group compliance and internal controls framework encompassing the development and maintenance of the Group Accounting Manual, reporting templates and instructions for all subsidiary businesses. • Lead the development of various projects to enhance and develop the consolidation process. • Support team management by providing guidance, support and leadership to all staff members in their operational tasks and in their general development • Lead in the embedding of the risk culture and control framework across the Group including identification of risks and controls and remedial actions to address all points. • Be flexible and provide support across Group Finance for all tasks including M&A and project work when required.
The Ideal Candidate for this role:
Personal Capabilities Required • Highly motivated self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to work under pressure, achieve targets and meet strict deadlines and to develop and manage projects. • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with proven track record of training and coaching trainees and peers. • Team working/interaction with others; strong team player with ability to interact with colleagues at all levels. • Be proactive, have an enthusiastic attitude to work and be committed to continuous process improvement. • Highly flexible and the ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and to manage conflicting priorities. Functional or Technical Knowledge and Skill Required • Qualified accountant ACA, ACCA with a number of years post qualification experience. • Big 4/Top 10 Accounting Practice background is preferable. • Experience in both financial accounting and reporting; experience with consolidation an advantage. • Financial services experience is crucial; experience in insurance would be an advantage. • Strong IFRS knowledge is essential, US GAAP and other European GAAP knowledge would be an advantage. • Have excellent PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) with a strong appreciation of general ledger systems; SAP would be an advantage.
